So after dropping my DX in the parking lot last week and shattering it I realized I needed a case. While picking up my replacement at the Verizon store I purchased this case, and after a week I can say this thing is awesome! The case itself is not super-bulky, and I really like the fact that I can put the phone face-down and still protect the screen. All the ports are easily accessible and the buttons line up properly and work great, albeit it takes more "finger power" to use the buttons. My only pseudo-"con" is that like any machined silicone case not everything matches up perfectly. I got out my Xacto knife and shaved down the 3.5mm plug to fit better around the hardshell component, and I had to shave the one side of the screen border down to facilitate better control when viewing videos horizontally. Yes, the silicone collects lint when in your pocket, but the protection of my phone makes it worth it. All in all, this is a great case and worth the $$ if they made a holster accessory I would buy it in a heartbeat! |

| I own a Droid X and its wrapped in an Otter Box. I have had this phone/case combo since November of last year. Here it is, March, and I have had the headphone jack cap tear off of it but it still is able to cover and protect my phone. The hard inner case is tough to get off but thats better for the case if you drop the phone. The cover for the phone charger/HDMI ports is about to tear off as well. Now theres a catch. I have put my phone through hell and back. I have thrown it at walls, dropped it in snow, kicked it with a steel toe boot and my phone STILL WORKS PERFECTLY. I would definately recommend the Otter Box to anybody who drops | |||||

| At first I really liked the case because it offers great protection against drops and doesnt add much bulk to the phone. The first time I pulled my phone out of my pocket I noticed that the silicone skin collects TONS of dust. The silicon covering the hard keys will cause the silicone skin to lip up above the keys when pressing them. After a few days I took the case off and noticed tons of dust was collecting under the silicone that was lipping up when pressing the hard keys. The case also makes it extremely hard to move widgets and app shortcuts from screen to screen. I would not suggest this case to anybody until they fix the silicone cover so that it fits tighter on the phone and does not allow dust under the skin. | |||||

I work as a paramedic and love my Droid..and up until this case, Ive always loved Otterboxes, too. I had the Defender for the Pearl, the Defender for the Tour, and finally the Commuter for my last phone, the Curve 8530. The Commuter certainly inspires confidence with regard to shock protection (just holding it, it feels pretty solid). The inner skin does feel thinner than my last Commuter case. I also really like the finish on the back of the plastic shell. Unforturnately, (though somewhat understandably) Otterbox chose to cover up the buttons on the Droid X and made them quite hard to press. I would gladly sacrifice a bit of protection in the Commuter series for easier button pushing. My second main gripe is with regard to the port cover flaps, specifically the HDMI and USB ports..its very easy to get open so much so that its very hard to get it to stay closed. Personally, with the Droid X, Im plugging and unplugging my phone on occasion all day long. The Droid X Commuter is just not what Ive come to expect from Otter..though Ive always had pretty good luck in the past. Checking out the Naztech Vertex..looks promising. |
